Professor Des O’Neill’s excellent book called Ageing and Caring – A guide for later life, is a great source of information for all older people, their families and carers. Professor O’Neill is a Consultant Geriatrician at Tallaght Hospital, and is a regular media contributor.
His book is divided into three sections:
- Section I Ageing: what you Need to Know, which covers a wide range of topics including positive ageing , what supports are available, finances, planning and coordinating health services and finances and ageing.
- Section II Common Health Problems has 10 chapters including Diabetes, mobility, memory and dementia, loneliness and depression, incontinence and medications.
- Section III The final years in principally about choices around Nursing Homes and so on.
The book is very easy to read, either from cover to cover or by dipping in to relevant sections. We will feature some of the topics covered in his book in future posts.
