Everyone aged 66 and over and living permanently in Ireland is entitled to Free Travel on all buses and trains operated by CIE companies. If you qualify for free travel you are issued with a pass that you must carry with you when travelling on public transport. In some cases a free companion pass may be issued to allow a person accompany the free travel pass holder. If you are getting a social welfare pension then the pass will be issued to you once you turn 66. If this isn’t the case then you must apply for the pass yourself by completing form FT1, which is available to download here.
Free travel for over 66s is a great perk of getting older in Ireland – make sure you take advantage!
