Most homes in Ireland have two or more levels and it’s common for some older people to have difficulty moving up and down the stairs in their own home, and in some cases this is no longer possible at all. One alternative to a stair lift is a “home lift”. Such personal lifts are much smaller, cheaper and easier to install than regular commercial lifts. They are also suitable for people who use a wheelchair.
There are a number of providers of personal home lifts in Ireland, one of which is Able Healthcare based in Cork. Their brochure on personal home lifts can be downloaded here: Able home lift brochure.
You may also be entitled to a mobility grant to help with the cost of installation, click on this link to the Citizens Information website for more information: mobility aids grant scheme.
