Live-In Care
We provide full time care at home when it is offers the best solution for the client. This may be temporary for convalescence or respite, or as a more long-term alternative to residential nursing home care.
For some clients who live alone, or with a vulnerable spouse, they may benefit from the presence of a carer overnight. The live in care model provides this resource while also offering full time active hours during the day when the carer can offer practical support with their daily routine. For many clients knowing that their trusted carer is there at night gives them a sense of security and companionship. For family members who often have busy lives with other commitments, they too can benefit from knowing that their loved one is safe and well and can seek help if needed.
With this model of care the client will have a carer on hand to help them with their routine, allowing them to carry out tasks and activities that are familiar to them and that they prefer to keep doing for themselves. The carer will work alongside the client, stepping in where tasks are a burden or unsafe, while giving the client control of choice and routine in their own home.
Usually this full time care is set up with two regular carers who split the week into their regular days, and develop an easy bond and knowledge of the clients needs and preferences. The carers will be discreet but vigilant to the comings and goings of the household, maximising the benefits of living at home, and maintaining an appropriate level of supported independence.
Some of the daily activities that full time carers can carry out include:
- Assistance with personal care, bathing, dressing and grooming.
- Preparation of meals – using the time available to use fresh ingredients and create favourite dishes. Supervision at mealtimes.
- Assistance with grocery shopping and keeping essential and preferred supplies in the home.
- Maintaining clean and tidy living areas, to include laundry and general light cleaning.
- Companionship – as per the clients own hobbies and interests. A cup of tea and a chat, a review of the latest news, tackling the daily crossword puzzle, baking, reminiscing, watching sports.
- Assisting with mobility and exercise – observing the client for any changes in their wellbeing, averting serious infections, advising on mobility aids and changes that may be helpful over time.
- Safety net at night – in the case of an emergency the carer will respond to the client’s needs instantly
All options are discussed with the client and their family, and there is flexibility for the care plan and schedule to change and adapt to the needs of the client.
