The day we paused, and let our team's words speak for themselves

How Heritage Homecare marked National Workplace Wellbeing Day 2026, and the calendar of quotes that came out of it.
By Diane Mahon, Director of Operations | 29 April 2026
Wednesday 29 April was National Workplace Wellbeing Day, run by Ibec’s KeepWell programme. Heritage Homecare officially signed up and registered, and we marked it our way: by stopping for a minute, stepping outside, and reminding each other why we do what we do.

The team, the sun, the hedge

Most of our carers spend their days alone, moving from one home to another, looking after the people who matter to families across Dublin and Wicklow. So when we got the office team together for a few minutes outside, smiling in front of a hawthorn hedge in full bloom, it felt like more than just a photo. A healthy team is a stronger team, and a team that gets to look at each other in the sunshine for five minutes is one that remembers why it shows up.

Fruit platters and smoothies, because small things matter

The kitchen got a glow-up. Strawberries, watermelon, pineapple, melon, grapes. A jug of homemade smoothie. Barry’s tea on standby for the traditionalists. It’s the kind of thing that sounds small until you walk into a room and find someone has done it for you. That’s the whole point of a wellbeing day.

Then we asked the team for their words

Two weeks before the day, we sent every Heritage carer and office team member an email and a Microsoft Form, asking for their favourite quote, saying, or affirmation. Whatever it was that got them through. Something a granny used to say, a line a client repeated, a phrase that just stuck.

Eighteen people sent in over 25 quotes. Quotes from grandmothers, from films, from Irish blessings, from clients, from somewhere deep inside themselves. We compiled all 18 into a voting form, sent it out on Wellbeing Day morning, and asked everyone to pick their favourite.

And the winner is

★ Quote of the Year 2026 ★

"The way we care today becomes the comfort they remember tomorrow."

Diego Armando Mercado Lopez
The team's chosen favourite
One sentence that says it all. Care isn’t just the visit, the meal, the medication. It’s the memory you leave behind. Diego, the prize is on its way to you, and your quote is the headline of the team calendar for the year ahead.

The team's top quotes

The leaderboard, in order of team votes:
  1. “The way we care today becomes the comfort they remember tomorrow.” – Diego Armando Mercado Lopez
  2. “Just keep swimming.” – Andressa Rodrigues Barbosa Espinoza
  3. “My grandmother used to say that love is charity. Giving yourself to others is worth more than saying the prettiest words to them.” – Natalia Gonçalves de Souza
  4. “Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.” – Michelle Henderson
  5. “It’s okay to pause. It’s okay to step back. It’s okay not to be okay, give yourself space to begin again.” – Sjifera Arianny

Words to live by, all year long

The voting did more than pick a winner. The 12 most-voted quotes are now featured in the Heritage Quote Calendar, May 2026 to April 2027. One quote per month. A reminder, every time you look at it, of who we are and how we look after each other and the families we serve.

12 months. 12 quotes. From the team, for the team.

Why we do this

National Workplace Wellbeing Day exists because work, all work, takes something out of you. Care work especially. The people on our team show up at houses every week and look after parents, partners, sons, daughters, grandparents. They give a lot of themselves. The least we can do is give a moment back. Fruit, sunshine, time with each other, and a chance to share what keeps them going.

Thanks to every single person on the Heritage team who took the time to share a quote, who voted, and who showed up on Wellbeing Day. You’re the reason families trust us. And if any of those quotes find their way onto your phone or into your day next week, that’s exactly the point.

See you again next year.
